Time Capsule Ideas for Couples Without a Shared Account

Make a couples time capsule on one phone by combining a memory from each of you, a few photos, and a message to open together later. You do not need a shared account for that. Sealday can hold the letter and media on the device where you create the capsule; it does not give each partner a separate copy or a shared editing space.

Choose whose phone will keep the capsule

Agree on which phone will hold the capsule and who will bring it when you open it. Pick a device its owner expects to keep using, and make sure both of you are comfortable with that arrangement. Sealday has no account sign-in or partner invitation. Taking turns on the same phone is how you contribute together. If you both need independent access from your own devices, choose a service that explicitly supports shared access and check how each person gets their copy.

Pick one small part of your life together

Give the capsule a narrow subject, such as your usual evening walk or the apartment you live in now. Use an idea from the table, then add a detail your partner might not have noticed. You do not have to cover the whole relationship or wait for a milestone.

Tell the same story from both sides

Choose a day you both remember, then write your accounts separately before comparing them. One person might remember getting caught in the rain; the other might remember the conversation on the way home. In the capsule’s single Message field, introduce each contribution with a label, such as ‘My version’ and ‘Your version.’ These are labels you type yourself, rather than separate author profiles. Keep the differences instead of editing everything into one agreed account. Finish with a sentence you write together about why that day belongs in the capsule.

Try a capsule called ‘An ordinary evening with us’

Photograph the table after dinner, each choose one detail from the evening, and record yourselves describing what you usually do next. Your joint message could begin: ‘Tonight we ate on the couch because the table was covered in laundry. One of us wanted another episode; the other fell asleep before it started. We hope we still make time to sit together, wherever we live.’ Change every detail to fit your own evening. Add a question for opening day, such as whether the same dinner is still in your regular rotation.

Put both contributions into one Sealday capsule

Start a new capsule, give it a short title, and enter your combined text in Message. Add media with Photo, Video, Voice note, or Import; Import accepts photos, videos, and audio files. You can take turns recording on the same phone or bring prepared files onto that device before adding them. Tap Continue to choose a future opening date, then Continue again to choose the reveal mode. Review the content before tapping SEAL. Wait for the sealing confirmation, then return to the home screen and check that the capsule appears.

Choose how much of the date you want to see

For a planned evening together, Exact shows the opening date and days remaining in the capsule’s locked detail view. Hint gives an approximate sense of when it will be ready, while Surprise hides the date on the sealed card and locked view. The person choosing the date still knows what they selected. These options change the waiting experience; they do not hide one partner’s contribution from the other during preparation. Choose a date you can both plan around, and put your meeting reminder in your own calendars.

Agree on what belongs to both of you

Ask before including a private recording, an intimate photo, or a conversation involving someone else. Decide whether either person may show the opened capsule to friends, and whether you each want copies of the original material. A capsule on one person’s phone puts that person in charge of access to the device. Keep anything you would be uncomfortable leaving in that arrangement somewhere else. You can also agree now on what to do with the saved material if either person later wants it kept private.

Keep the draft and originals somewhere else too

Write longer contributions in a separate saved document before pasting them into Sealday. An unfinished capsule can lose its draft when you leave the creation screen, and a change in Premium access can also reset a draft. The opened letter can display line breaks as continuous text, so use clear introductory phrases to distinguish your contributions. For irreplaceable recordings, save them outside the app first, then use Import. Keep original photos too. Sealday has no capsule export or import-for-restoration feature. Do not assume that moving phones or reinstalling the app will bring the capsule back.

Make opening day something you do together

Sealday does not email the capsule to your partner or send an opening reminder. Set a separate reminder that both of you can access, including whose phone holds the capsule. When the date arrives, open the app, select the ready capsule, and follow the seal-breaking prompt. Read both versions and answer the question you left yourselves. If you are apart, arrange a call with the person holding the phone.

Frequently asked questions

Can we make a capsule if we have just started dating?

Yes. Keep the subject as small as you like: the snack you always share, a place you have visited twice, or something that made you laugh. You do not have to include intimate details or promises about the future.

Can we make one if we do not live together?

Yes. Prepare your messages and chosen media separately, then collect them on the phone that will hold the capsule. Decide how you will meet or call to open it; Sealday does not collect contributions remotely.

Can we keep our letters secret from each other?

Sealday has one message area per capsule and no separate partner permissions. For a surprise, you could prepare separate recordings without listening to each other’s contribution, but the app does not enforce that agreement during preparation.

Do we have to include photos or recordings?

No. A written message is enough to continue through capsule creation. You can each contribute a few sentences and finish with a shared question if you would rather leave cameras and microphones out of it.

Will the capsule open automatically for both of us?

No. When its date arrives, the capsule becomes ready on the device holding it. Someone still needs to open the app and go through the opening sequence. Your partner does not receive a separate capsule.

Can we rely on a phone backup to preserve it?

Keep separate originals rather than relying on that alone. Google’s Android backup guidance says some apps cannot back up or restore all data. A phone backup is not a promise that your Sealday capsule will transfer successfully.

Seal a moment today, open it when the time comes. Sealday locks a note, photos, video or a voice message until the date you choose. Everything stays on your device — no account, no cloud. When the day arrives, the seal breaks in a small ritual and the memory comes back to you.
