A Free Letter to Your Future Self: What to Check Before You Seal

You can write and seal a letter to your future self for free in Sealday, with one unopened capsule at a time and no subscription required to read it when it opens. Before committing a letter to a long wait, check what uses that slot, what a trial signs you up for, and how you will keep a separate copy.

Separate the free plan from the Premium trial

Sealday’s free plan and its Premium trial are different choices. After the introduction, you may see a subscription screen; choose “Not now” or use its close button to continue without starting a trial. Seeing that screen does not mean you must subscribe to seal your first capsule. You do not need to enter payment details for the free capsule. This distinction matters when comparing apps: check whether you can complete the letter, seal it, and eventually read it without accepting a subscription offer.

Understand what occupies the free slot

Sealday’s free limit is one active capsule, meaning one you have not opened yet. It is not a monthly allowance that resets while an older letter waits. If you seal a letter for next year, that capsule occupies the slot throughout the wait. A second letter with a different opening date needs Premium while the first remains unopened. The table shows how each capsule status affects the limit. Plan around how many letters you want waiting at once, rather than how often you expect to write.

Check access after opening

Once you finish opening a capsule, it moves into the Opened group and releases its active slot. You can return to that letter without Premium and keep it while starting your next free capsule. Reading old letters is separate from creating additional active ones. There is a limitation to know about: if the app cannot read an opened capsule’s saved media, the memory screen can remain on its loading message. If that happens, keep the app’s data intact and contact support at support@hugosoftware.net before attempting a reset.

Distinguish paid extras from basic letter features

The free capsule can contain text, photos, video, and audio; adding those types of content does not itself require Premium. You can also choose Surprise, Hint, or Exact for how much opening-date information is visible. Premium removes the active-capsule limit and adds the golden opening ritual. Sealday has no in-app ads on the free plan, so there is no need to subscribe to remove them. Unlimited active capsules should not be read as unlimited device storage: your saved letters and media still need room on your phone.

Read the actual offer before accepting a trial

Sealday’s subscription screen can show trial wording and an enabled trial button before Google Play has supplied an offer. Its advertised trial duration is also fixed wording rather than a reliable reflection of the offer available to you. Before confirming anything, read the trial eligibility, duration, recurring amount, billing period, and first charge date in Google Play’s purchase screen. If the terms are missing or unclear, close the offer and use the free plan. Google Play Help explains that an accepted trial leads to automatic billing when it ends unless you cancel before expiry. A free trial therefore needs a separate decision from free use.

Find the cancellation route before you need it

For a subscription purchased through Google Play, open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions and Subscriptions. Select Sealday and follow the cancellation instructions. Use the Google Account that made the purchase. Google’s cancellation guidance makes one point especially relevant to a capsule app: uninstalling does not cancel a subscription. Treat stopping renewal and protecting your saved letters as separate tasks. If you accepted a trial only to try the paid features, check its expiry in Google Play and cancel before it ends to avoid the subscription charge.

Decide how you will preserve the letter

Sealday stores capsule text and media on your device. Neither the free plan nor Premium provides an in-app export-and-restore tool or an account-based library that syncs your letters to another phone. Before sealing, save a separate copy of the text and keep the original media somewhere you can retrieve them. Android device backup is a separate service, and Google warns that not every app can back up or restore all its data. Check your phone’s backup details, but do not assume they guarantee recovery of a capsule. Avoid clearing app data or uninstalling when the only copy of a letter is inside Sealday.

Protect writing that has not been sealed

An unfinished letter is not the same as a saved capsule. Sealday does not reliably preserve an unsealed draft after you leave the writing flow or reopen the app. A change in Premium access while you are writing can also reset that screen and lose the draft. For a long or irreplaceable letter, write in a document you can save, then paste the text into your capsule. After sealing, check for the confirmation and the capsule’s card on the home screen before treating the task as finished.

Try a short wait before choosing a distant date

If you want to check whether the free experience suits you, start with a disposable note and the Tomorrow date option. When it is ready, complete the opening ritual, return to the letter, and check any photo or recording you included. That gives you a chance to judge the reading experience before entrusting it with something important. The test capsule occupies your free slot until you open it, so allow time for the test before you plan to seal your real letter.

Frequently asked questions

What if I have several unopened capsules when Premium ends?

Existing capsules remain available to open when their dates arrive. Returning to free access blocks creating another capsule while you still have one or more unopened capsules; it does not require payment to read those existing letters.

Can I delete a sealed capsule to free the slot?

Sealday does not currently offer an individual capsule-delete control in its screens. Do not clear all app data to make room: that puts your saved letters at risk. Check the content and date before sealing.

Does Restore purchases recover my letters?

No. Restore purchases checks subscription access through Google Play. It does not retrieve capsule text or media from a Sealday cloud archive. Keep letter preservation separate from restoring a purchase.

Will Sealday email the letter to my future self?

No. The letter opens inside the app on your device; Sealday does not offer scheduled email delivery. If receiving the letter in an inbox is essential, check for that feature before choosing a service.

Do I need to allow camera or microphone access?

You can make a text-only capsule without recording anything. Camera and microphone access are relevant when you choose to capture a photo, video, or voice recording, rather than requirements for writing a free letter.

Seal a moment today, open it when the time comes. Sealday locks a note, photos, video or a voice message until the date you choose. Everything stays on your device — no account, no cloud. When the day arrives, the seal breaks in a small ritual and the memory comes back to you.
