A Digital Time Capsule Template for One Meaningful Day
Use this digital time capsule template to save one day's setting, morning expectations, turning point, evening reflection, and a few files with context. Fill it in during three brief pauses, then save it for a future opening date. Complete it in a note or document; Sealday can hold the finished message and supported media, but it does not provide this worksheet or schedule your check-ins.
Choose the day and set a small limit
Pick a day you want to revisit: the first day in a new home, a long-awaited visit, or an ordinary day before something changes. Define its boundaries before you begin. Will you record waking up through bedtime, or one afternoon? For a manageable version, aim for three short entries and one photo. Those are suggested limits, not requirements. Put the three pauses in your own calendar if reminders would help, and choose where you will keep the unfinished record.
Copy and complete the one-day template
Copy the table's prompts into a note or document and replace the brackets with your own words. Complete the date, scope, and reason first; return to the morning, middle, and evening entries as the day unfolds. Use the media key to explain each file. Finally, choose when to revisit the record and what you want to ask yourself then.
In the morning, record what you expect
Write where the day starts, what you expect to happen, and how you feel about it. Keep uncertainty intact: if you do not know how something will turn out, say so. Add one detail from the scene, such as the half-packed kitchen or rain against the window. A sentence like ‘I think the hardest part will be eating dinner here for the first time’ gives the evening entry something to return to. You do not need to predict your whole future.
In the middle, capture what changed
Pause after the main event or whenever the day takes an unexpected turn. Record what actually happened and one thing your morning self did not know. If nothing changed, describe what held your attention instead. Take a photo or record a brief sound only if it adds something the words miss. Ask before recording someone else, and leave private conversations out when permission is unclear. If you miss this pause, write from memory later and label the entry as an evening recollection.
In the evening, finish the record
Compare the day with your morning expectation. What surprised you, what remained difficult, and what would you otherwise leave out? Include the uneventful parts if they matter; you do not have to turn the day into a success story. Then explain each selected file in the message: ‘Photo: the empty room before the boxes arrived. Voice note: how the room sounded that evening.’ Keep the original files together in a folder with a descriptive name. The Library of Congress recommends descriptive filenames and a brief account of selected photographs.
Read through it before you seal
Replace vague references such as ‘here’ and ‘that thing’ with enough context to understand them later. Write the recorded day's full date in words, such as [Month Day, Year], especially if you finish the capsule afterward. Check that the files match their descriptions, remove anything you would rather keep private, and play your original recordings. Use short labeled sentences so the record still makes sense without its layout. Sealday can display message line breaks as continuous text when you reopen a capsule, so do not rely on spacing to separate the entries.
Put the finished day into Sealday
In Sealday: Time Capsule Letter, choose Create a capsule or New capsule. Enter a short Title, paste the completed record into Message, and add photos, video, or audio through the capture options or Import. Continue to the opening-date screen and choose a preset or a custom date. The custom picker starts at tomorrow, so record today's events first and schedule the reopening for later. Choose Exact if you want the date and countdown visible, then seal. The worksheet's separate prompts belong in your message; the app does not have individual fields for morning, midday, or evening.
Keep a separate copy of the day
Save the completed text and original media outside Sealday before sealing. Unsealed drafts are not automatically saved for later: leaving the creation flow or restarting can lose them, and a change in subscription access can also reset an unfinished entry. Saved capsules use storage on your device; the app has no capsule export or restore tool. Do not depend on reinstalling it to recover your record. For photographs, the Library of Congress recommends multiple copies in separate places and periodic checks that the files remain readable.
Leave yourself a way back to this day
Choose an opening date and add your own calendar reminder to revisit the record. Sealday shows capsules that are ready when you return to the app; it does not schedule an opening notification or email the capsule to you. Before you finish, confirm that the sealed capsule appears on the home screen. When you reopen it, read the morning expectation before the evening reflection. Use your closing question to notice what changed, without rewriting the original account to match what you know now.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this digital time capsule template without an app?
Yes. Complete the prompts in a saved document, keep the media alongside it, and make a calendar reminder for your chosen date. That gives you a record to revisit, though the document itself remains readable.
What is the shortest useful version?
Write the date and setting, one morning expectation, what actually happened, and one evening reflection. Add why you chose this day. A photo is optional; a complete account can be text only.
Can I complete it after the day has ended?
Yes. Use the same prompts, but say that you wrote the account afterward. Distinguish what you remember expecting from what you know happened. Do not invent a morning entry just to fill every row.
Does Sealday automatically collect my day's photos or activities?
No. You write the message and choose what to capture or import. The app does not assemble a daily timeline or fill in this template, so gather the day's material before creating the finished capsule.
Can I attach the worksheet as a PDF?
Sealday's import option accepts photos, video, and audio, not PDFs or word-processing documents. Paste the completed worksheet's text into Message and retain the document separately if you want its original layout.
What if I have nothing meaningful to say by evening?
Describe one thing you noticed, what occupied your time, and how the day ended. You can leave optional prompts blank. The record does not need a lesson or milestone to give you a recognizable glimpse of that day later.
Seal a moment today, open it when the time comes. Sealday locks a note, photos, video or a voice message until the date you choose. Everything stays on your device — no account, no cloud. When the day arrives, the seal breaks in a small ritual and the memory comes back to you.
